Pretty much everyone knows that “bowls" are one of the most popular eating trends that has come along. In the last ten years, having a one dish meal has become the norm for most of us, especially those who are trying to maintain a healthy diet. Having a burrito bowl, instead of the traditional burrito for example is a great choice for those who are trying to limit extra carbs but at the same time getting a nutrient dense, balanced meal.
Bowls come in all forms, ranging from Southwest style steak, bean and rice bowls with guacamole and cheese to Asian style with ingredients like rice noodles, chicken, veggies and teriyaki sauce, and even Curry dishes with fish, potatoes and garbanzo bean.
Consumers in 2018 are educated and increasingly picky about how they want to fuel their bodies. We are a culture that values availability and ease, while at the same time we desire nutritious and delicious food. Restaurants are popping up all over that offer a variety of choices which allows us to customize what we eat.
I love eating out but bowls are something that you can make at home very easily. Creating your own one dish meal allows for customization too. Make a list of all your favorite foods and see how you can combine some of them to make your own special bowl!
In a large skillet, saute onion, garlic, poblano and carrot on medium heat until softened (about 5 minutes) Add ground chicken and spices, stirring until chicken is completely cooked through. Add
chicken stock and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Taste for seasoning. Add salt if necessary.
