John Dougherty
Workout Focus: Body Building, Competition
Age: 26
Location: Washington, DC
Description:
My name is John Dougherty and I am a natural bodybuilder, men’s physique competitor, fitness model, personal trainer, and student. I just graduated from the University of Maryland in May with my B.S. in Kinesiology. I’ve been an ACE certified personal trainer since 2008. I will be attending George Washington University in D.C. starting at the end of August pursuing my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. I began weightlifting the summer entering my freshman year of high school at a whopping 5’3” and 100 pounds. I began training as part of the conditioning program for my soccer team, but quickly fell in love with working out. I love the independent aspect of training. Unlike team sports, there is no one else to rely on or to affect the outcome of your training. I loved the feeling of pushing myself to new limits and watching my body transform as the result of my hard work and dedication. I slowly but steadily made consistent gains of about 20 pounds a year for the first five years of my training, and got up to about 205 pounds at 5’9” tall. I then decided it was time to take it to the next level and begin competing in bodybuilding competitions. I competed in my first two bodybuilding competitions at 19 years old, winning my first show ever, and placing 9th at Teen Nationals. I continued bodybuilding for the past three years, until the development of the new men’s physique division this past year. I felt that being a natural competitor and fitness model, my look would be very well suited for the new division. Although I am now competing in Men’s Physique, my training style has not changed. I still like to train heavy and hard. I use a periodization training program where I have several different “periods” which range from very high rep ranges (12-15+, as high as 50), to very low rep ranges (4-6 reps per set). I feel that this type of training program helps me to avoid plateaus in my exercise program and to keep my motivation level at its highest. My goal now is to become an IFBB Pro in the Men’s Physique division, and with the backing of ETB, I know I can make it happen!

Workout Focus: Weight Loss, Abs
Age: 26
Location: New York, NY
Description:
I love what I do. I love to help people reach their goals and change their lives for the better. It’s important to get to know my clients, and teach them how to make training a part of their lives. I work hard to keep learning about things that are going to keep my clients making smart choices, hitting the gym, and eating right in the long run. Because I get to do what I love, I wake up each day with high energy and a positive attitude that helps my clients reach their fitness goals. I’ve been a personal trainer for years now, and everyday I discover more, and become better and better at training. With ETB, I get to take the things I am learning about health and fitness and share them with you as I am learning them.

PJ Martyn
Workout Focus: Endurance, Core Strength
Age: 26
Location: Manhattan, NY
Description:
I moved to US from Ukraine at the age of 16 barely speaking English but with a big dream to become successful. I've been told I won't be able to do many things: graduate from high school, get into a good university, get a well paying job, but because I believed that anything is possible I managed to do all of those. This internal strength is what I stand for and what I teach my clients to embrace—I believe in a balance between our work and personal lives, fitness and nutrition, constantly challenging ourselves. I am a certified financial analyst who spent the last five years working for corporate America in London and New York, while balancing it with my strong passion for fitness, training and my family. I advocate a holistic approach to fitness. In my experience fitness and nutrition are just as important as yoga and meditation… I am here to help you achieve your personal fitness goals, and to show you that anything is possible if you have a strong desire and a dream. Fitness is just like anything else in our lives; it’s an evolving learning process, and a journey that I’m passionate about traveling with people looking to achieve.
